EGYPT IS NOW HOME TO THE BIGGEST SOLAR PARK IN THE WORLD

On 13th March 2019, Egypt made history.

Costing 42 billion USD, and taking up 37 square kilometers, Benban’s new solar park is open for business!

The reason why they chose Aswan’s Benban (qaryet Benban) is that it ranks the top of the world at having the sun shining every single day there. And, it doesn’t have any plains or heights, which made it a lot cheaper to build the park there.

The solar park works like any other power plant. But instead of using petrol, coal, or nuclear energy, it uses the sun’s energy, which Egypt and more specifically Aswan has a lot of. (Thank god)

Banban’s new Solar Park

According to a statement made by the Ministry of Electricity, the park consists of 32 stations, all of which will be up and running in the next 12 months, and when optimized, the park will produce 90% of the Great Dam’s energy. (Exactly 1450 megawatts)

Moreover, professionals estimate that by 2020, 20% of Egypt’s electricity will be generated from a clean source.

The park also affects Egypt’s economy by employing 10 to 12 thousand persons. And with the world’s shift (finally) to clean energy, this will most definitely benefit our economy on the long run.

We think that this a really good move that this country needs right now, and we’re very optimistic about how this will affect all of us here living in om el donia.
