The 12th African Games where held in Morocco from the 18th to the 31st of August. 52 countries from all around Africa participated in the tournament, as it plays an remarkable role at qualifying for the coming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
And with that, Egypt’s delegation just made the whole country proud by breaking a record in the 2019 African Games, winning a total of only 273 medals!
Moreover, the new record consists of 102 gold, 98 silver and 73 bronze medals, dethroning Nigeria, that accumulated 240 medals back in 2003.
Egypt’s previous record was back in 2015, where the delegation succeeded at winning 217 medals. However, luck was on Egypt’s side this year as it beat all the other countries and achieved this wonderful achievement.
Furthermore, the runner up, Nigeria, won 127 medals, South Africa came in third, followed by Algeria and Morocco successively.
